Curlew sandpiper
Another wader shot from my session on Friday afternoon, this time a juvenile curlew sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea). I am still busy sorting the greenshanks, but hopefully will get around to posting one soon. Friday was a great session in the hide, six species, three of them for the first time. Helps make up for all those sessions with two black-headed gulls and a mallard in eclipse.

Nikon D200, 600mm Nikon, 250 iso, 1/400 @ f.6.3. Adjusted for shadows/highlights and a 65% crop

Well worth all that time cooped up in that hide.  Very nice subject and I like the ripples in the water.

Another nice sharp image David and good composition Isn't it lovely to get new species, it just makes the day. The water looks a slightly strange colour on my (uncalibrated monitor) but that could be the reason.

Very nice image. I've never (knowingly) seen one. I see what Maggie means about the water colour and I just wonder if that is also showing in the plumage? Could be accurate colour rendition of course!

I'll confess to being a little puzzled by these comments. On my monitor the water is thinly blue, a combination no doubt of the blue sky above being reflected, and the grey mud underneath. Possibly the plumage is a little on the cool side, but it is more or less how I remember the bird. Does it look odd to anyone else?

I've just put it down to the sky's reflection, so it looks fine to me. According to the device at the bottom of this page http://www.sigmauserforum.com/forum/search.php?searchid=6081 my monitor is calibrated correctly.

Nice one, looks OK to me - just as I recall it :toast:

Well I agree with you David, the water looks as I would expect it to with a blue sky reflected in it. The white in front of the birds eye looks a little blue and that could be either too low a colour temperature or a slight reflected cast. I suspect the latter because I have just tried warming it up in ACR and you can't get rid of it.
It's a nice shot anyway.

David

Very nice image great detail. Reflected light as is, is fine. Monitor variations do impact comments.

Nice picture, it does look little cool perhaps but that is a matter of personal taste is it not, the colours do look a little different but I like different it’s more interesting.

Nice work David, you handled the light very well here and taken advantage of the overcast sky.
