Joe Rogers
Vernon, Tx

I have been visiting this site for a year now and happily became a full member today. I have been a full time professional portrait and wedding photographer for over 30 years squeezing in landscapes whenever I found the time. My wife retired from teaching last years and I have backed off the daily grind a bit so we can travel and photograph when we please. My daughter and her family live in Loveland Co. so we visit as frequently. Four years ago after a visit in October I took a week and travel around Colorado just to photograph for myself....well, I was hooked. Now, I go every fall and whenever I can.
There is enormous talent on this forum. I have learned so much here it makes my head hurt sometimes. I even traveled to the Durango area last January and bought a little of Guy Smickle's time that has proved very helpful. A great guy, that Guy.
I look forward to participating whenever I have something to add. I alway encourage CC as a method of learning.
Thanks to all,
Joe Rogers :wavey:

Welcome aboard Joe. I'm fairly sure you and I have met before, up on Kebler Pass one fall a few years ago.

You are only 50 miles away from my hometown, which is Wichtia Falls. Been through Vernon too many times to count. And yes, once a Texan gets a view of Colorado, it's hard going back. I've been here 40 years this summer, and Lord willin', I'll never have to leave. Nothing in WF but mesquites and oil wells. Not conducive to landscape photography. Check out the post on putting a green ribbon on the antenna when driving around Colorado this fall. That way we can spot one another.

Hey Brent, Dont think we've actually met, but, you have emailed me directions to Rd 265 south of McClure pass last year. I have gone to your site many times to check out locations you post. Thanks
Morris, I cant believe you're from Wichita Falls. My studio is there although I live in Vernon, and yes nothing but mesquite and scorching summers. I have discovered something nice about the area, though. It is just a day (450miles) from Colorado, New Mexico, the Buffalo National River in Arkansas and the same to the Texas Hill Country. All magnificnet places to photograph.
I, indeed, read the post about the green ribbon and will sport one on the trusty van
this year. Im looking to be out about a week or so around the last of September in the Kebler, Aspen, Ridgeway, Silver Jack areas....Also, Im making a run over to Monument Valley (a life long dream) Oct 2nd to photograph from Hunt's Mesa. My wife backed out on that one and I need an extra person to helpl pay the toll for the guide. Will be sunset, spent the night on the mesa, and do sunrise. If anyone is interested email me. Yes, but there ought to be a law!

Welcome, Joe! Hope you can meet up with some members of the Green Ribbon Brigade on your next trip up.

Howdy, Joe!
Not sure how you got hooked up with a reprobate like Guy Schmickle, but you seem no worse for wear.
Hunt's Mesa has always been one of my goals, but Oct. 2 is right during prime Autumn photography in SW Colorado, and the skies are usually cloudless during that period.
Hope this isn't the case for your trip!

Hey Joe...good to see you've stepped out of the shadows!! Bummer that your wife had to back out of your trip. I've actually got Tami on board for a late Sept/early Oct trip to the Tetons, but maybe I'll run into ya before we leave as I hope to do a short trip in state somewhere.

I hope to see some of your work floating around here from time to time!

It makes me feel great to get such a warm welcome from people whose work I have admired for so long. I'll dip my toe in slowly and post some work for critique.......Although Guy is the only one I have actually met, I'll tie my green ribbon on this fall and, hopefully, will meet some of you personally. Will probably only spend a couple of days in Monument Valley area and the rest of the time in SW Colorado depending on the timing of the color change.
Hope to see y'all
Joe

Gotcha Joe, I know your name was familiar for some reason! :) Maybe in person this fall!

Hunt's is awesome, and I'm glad you are camping up there! Our guide told us amazing stories around the campfire. Wonderful!
