I've been lurking for a good long time this year, mainly, b/c I haven't been out! Life keeps one busy, with kids & work. In fact, it was until last month that I even squeaked out a vacation week.
We saw family in MT, and then went to Yellowstone. But I've been wishing to see the Grand Tetons for at least 5 years and so I pretty much made sure I went since we were so close!
I had hoped for a nice sunset shot this evening but a large storm system was making its way through. We were at my wife's friend's house in Jackson and I could see the clouds setting up something pretty. I wanted to head out & scout for the next morning anyway so I went up the road. It was getting windy & dark and lightning was flashing in the distance on both sides of the mountain range. I waited for a good 20 minutes continually tripping the shutter in the hopes of a lightning shot, but that didn't happen (probably a good thing anyway).
So I came away with this, knowing full well what Ansel Adam's Snake River Overlook shot looked like (we have it above our fireplace at home) and tried for a similar style. The clouds were moving very fast, and a bright spot that's the moon was beaming through the clouds above the tallest peak throughout the time I was there.
Anyway, I'd like to know if you think this would be worthy enough to put in my upcoming (& last) show at First Thursday in the Pearl. It's from 6-9 this Thursday and I'm at Filson's on NW 13th & Glisan which is near REI. It looks like it's near Phil Knoupf's show as well.

Thanks for looking! And I hope to keep posting for a little while longer now that I have some pics to share:)

Kevin, I would put into the show for 1st Thurs. I like the composition. It has an ominous feel. Wondering how it would look if you were to bring out more detail in the foreground.

a nice shot but I too would like to see the mountains and foreground have a bit more details....
Thanks for your time, Bill, Mark, & Darren. Since I now have the 3800 printer, I now know how the computer screen differs from the print, and so I'll look into the details once its on paper. I, for one, like to look at prints closely and far away and admire the details. I'll look into it.

I did lighten up the pic considerably already, and I agree more contrast could be put back. But lighter still? I'm on the fence about that.
To those of you able to see Ansel Adam's print of the Tetons and Snake River, take another look. I can b/c we have it in our living room above the fireplace. Guess what? It's dark & contrasty. And that's what I like about it.
So I'll take another look. Thanks again for everyone's thoughts.
