With a group of friends, my wife and I traveled to Durango>Needleton>Chicago Basin to once again attempt to climb the three high peaks of the Needles Range. Our trip was from 8/20-23 and we had a great weather window that was a welcome change from previous trips. We climbed Eolus on day one and Sunlight/Windom on day two. Although I did more hiking than shooting, I managed to compose a a few landscape shots.

Not Hazel, but I'm going to have to change to unnamed lake. Your reply spawned a more thorough topo and Google Earth review. Thanks.

I got to look at those peaks from below earlier this summer so its nice to see what it looks like from the top. Thanks for showing me the sights I'll probably never see in person!

Congrats on finally knocking off those 3 pesky 14ers! I enjoyed your trip report that Marla sent out. I'm sorry I missed the trip. Now next summer you guys should join me on a Needleton - Elk Park traverse of the range!

The second is really cool Dave. Mind bending scale in that one.

These are all nice! I like the 2nd for it's unique perspective.

If you follow the yellow arrow, you'll see where I was standing when I took the cover shot for "14,000 Feet." It is indeed an unnamed lake, about 500' vertical above Sunlight Lake. And I love your shot, Dave! I hadn't seen this one yet.

Congratulations on your feat!
Your images are the closest I'll come to actually seeing these magnificent views.

Those are some precipitous mountains! If I had to pick one, I would go for the first. I like the rock colors and textures combined with the background peaks. They all portray the area well.
When I was young and fit back in the precambian era I went up Noname Creek and over and down via Ruby Lake. There must be a huge amount of unexplored wilderness in the area. Thanks for the nice reminder.

#2 is pretty mind-blowing, and makes me nervous just looking at it. What a dropoff. Cool perspective ... esp. with Todd's footnote (glancing over my shoulder to Todd's cover).

Nice shots Dave. Really like the warm light hitting the top of the mountain in the first image.
