PS CS3 question

So I've got CS3 loaded onto my laptop, for months now. Tonight I downloaded some photos to do a photo merge, but when I went to File > Automate, there's no Photomerge option. I find this strange, since I've used Photomerge on the laptop before, because my laptop has 3 gigs of ram and my desktop only has one gig. What would cause Photomerge to vanish?

As an aside, at some point recently I started getting a warning when opening PS that said "The Adobe UI font could not be loaded. For best results, exit the program and either install it or uninstall other fonts." WTF does that mean?

Thanks in advance for any help you can throw my way.

Reinstall. Would likely solve both problems ... although I've heard the UI font issue can be related to having too many fonts in use. (The UI font is the font that powers your interface - menus, windows, etc.)

Do you see a photomerge file in your photoshop/plugins/filters directory?

Have you tried deleting your preferences yet (..in PS, not your personal ones  )?

Hold down the Ctrl+Alt+Shift keys immediately after launching PS.
A prompt will ask if you want to delete the preferences file. Click 'Yes'.
This is a catch all fix I use whenever something funky happens in PS that never happened before. Usually fixes things right up!

Wish I could figure out a way to apply it to life....

Todd,

There may be another issue. Recently, when working in CS3, all of the sudden (upon starting a new session one day), several of my menu items were missing. I still don't know why. But, what I did discover is that there's an option at the bottom of many menus that says "Show all menu items." So, I had to force several menu items to show up again, and I also found that there's an option someplace where you can tell CS3 what menu items you want to show up (and, not appear) in your drop-down menus. Could this be a similar issue for you???

Good luck,

Tim!

Sounds like a different workspace may be loaded.

Look under Window > Workspace > Keyboard Shortcuts and Menus.

The Keyboard shortcuts will be loaded by default; click on the Menu tab, toward the top.

This shows a list of all the available menus.

You can reload default and presaved sets, or make your own.

These can be driven by keyboard shortcuts; could be that the menus were reloaded by a keystroke etc.

If anything is ever missing - palettes, menu items, shortcuts, etc. look there first. That section essentially controls the entire interface.

Just curious....did you find any "closure" regarding this matter?

Sorry for the delay in follow-up and thank-yous, guys. John, I tried your method without success, and was going to reload the software, but got lazy and went ahead and did the stitch on my desktop PC. Which basically consists of a) click "okay" then b) go watch a movie. But Nat's solution sounds like the perfect one, which I'll try when I get a chance. Oftentimes when I'm working on the laptop, I'm reclined on my recliner sofa (go figure) with the laptop on my lap (go figure redux) and my dog Riley – or Dammit Riley, as he must think his name is – comes up and steps on the keyboard. No telling how many functions he's changed over time.
