Rob Galbraith has a two-page article on the 7D with beta firmware he tested, including full-size sample images all the way up to ISO 12800.

He also has a brief note about three new Canon lenses

This will be the Avian and Sports shooters delight... APS-C sensor for more reach, 18MP to allow even tighter cropping afterwards and still have a big image, and you get 8FPS. Those hummingbirds don't stand a chance.

Here's the Canon webpage.

The video side also offers 24p and 25p (the EU will be happy about that) as well as 30p. I bet, though, we don't see 24p in a firmware upgrade for our trusty 5D Mark II's, because I think the dual DIGICs are needed for that which the 7D has.

The camera sounds great, but I'm addicted to full frame... my 5D2 stays in my bag. But if you're a birder or wildlife shooter, this has got to be the best thing ever. My ONE question, however, is this: This month is a YEAR ago that the 5D2 was announced and dealers are still struggling to get some in stock. Same goes with lenses... many are on backorder. Canon keeps cranking out these phenominal imaging devices, but actually GETTING one seems to be the challenge.

Paul, I'm with you. The 7D has many features I would love to have but I'm happy with my 5D2.

Maybe early next year I can scrape up enough to replace the 40D backup with the 7D. That would be a pair to draw to.

I was waiting for the 60D before upgrading my 40D because I wanted HD video for birds but it looks like I may not have to wait as long, I just have to scrape up an extra $300 over what I expected the 60D to go for. Looks like a great camera.
