Hi all,

I've been MIA for a few months. Some dumb injuries and overall insanity this summer prevented me from doing anything fun and it was a little painful to see everyone elses stunning wildflower images while I sat at home. There is always next year... However, I am looking forward to a week and a half long vacation starting next week for my wedding in Breckenridge. And I am planning on playing hookie a few mornings and finding some much needed solitude somewhere around Breck. Any of you have ideas on where to go for sunrise shoots that are close enough so I'm never discovered missing?

Thanks!

Aleks

Either Crystal Lakes or the Mohawk Lakes drainage are great sunrise locales. McCullough Gulch is good, too, with a great waterfall near timberline and lots of tarns above. Congrats on your upcoming nuptials. Dozens of male, single RMNP members weep.

I wondered where you went. And congratulations, and may you find wedded bliss. It's about time for the mist to start rising in the cool morning from Lake Dillon at the boat marina in Frisco. Fairly nice scene.

Same as Todd recommended. I prefer the Mohawk Lakes basin. There may also be some aspens changing on Boreas Pass and there is a stretch early on where the trees arch over the road with a view through to the ski area peaks. You can also drive up to Loveland pass and shoot from the ridge above towards the 10-mile range in the morning or other options to the east of the pass at sunset.

Have fun.

Congrats on the wedding! Lake Emma http://www.gcollier.com/photos/39.jpg and the bristlecones on Windy Ridge http://www.gcollier.com/Bristlecone_Pine.html, both near Alma, are nice. They require longer drives but less hiking. The Blue Lakes http://www.gcollier.com/Blue-Lake-Summit-County.html can be nice and require little driving and no hiking. There's also a small waterfall on the road up to Blue Lakes. But if you have time and want to hike, Todd's suggestions of Mohawk Lakes or McCullough Gulch may be the best bets.

Thanks guys for the great ideas, I'll try to get away at least one of the mornings and check out some of these spots. Todd, that's really nice of you to say, and everyone else, thanks for the wishes :wavey:
