Nature in the raw-very noisey background-might be best to run it through some Noise software

Bring it on, Maggie!!  Great to see in all it's gory detail. Some might say the use of flash is a bit obvious, but as Matt Cole has impressed on me a bit of diffusion helps. I use a bit of white paper handkerchief if the ambient light is bright. Also my favourite ISO is 50 and apertures varying between f16, f18 and f20. Hope to see many more after this.

Thanks David for the info. I was photographing in a woodland area hence the higher ISO. Didn't have time to think about changing many settings as the spider just suddenly grabbed the fly and I didn't want to miss it. Have also only just started using flash so not too sure what I am doing at the moment. Will try with your suggested settings and see how I go. :wavey:

It's usually a case of being in the right place at the right time, when these events happen. I know what you mean about the use of flash as I'm still experimenting. I've just found a polarising filter I used with my Nikon FM2 and MicroNikkor 55mm lens so I am going to have a go with using that as a diffuser tomorrow, weather permitting as I have a day off. Best of luck with your endeavours. :wavey:

A well seen and well anticipated moment. It would have worked well,IMHO, if you could have gotten a little light/detail included in the background, but may have been tricky to achieve, given the woodland setting.
A good shot though and I like the way the lower strands of the web have caught the light, which helps balance the composition.

well captured Maggie, not an easy subject to photograph by any means. I agree that a bit of noise reduction would help.
