Took this in the yorkshire dales, on the army's training area, the red flags were down so this grouse stuck its head up for some air. The sweet smell of the heather fills the air up there right now.

1d3, 500mm+1.4tc(700mm) @ f8, 1/250th, iso400 full frame, resting on car window,

Exif is in the image for those interested

A most attractive shot caught at just the right time when the heather's at it's very best.
I think you've got another image here too just by cropping out the green area at the top of the frame.
Although saying that, I do like how the green area adds an extra splash of colour to the scene.

There is something about grouse in the heather that is so appealing , there have been quite a few shot recently and they all have the same feel about them .Another nice grouse heather combo.

Have been doing the same sort of shots recently myself - these birds in this colour really does work well, and this is a nice one. Think I agree with justin about the green band at the top but good stuff.

Some really nice stuff coming from these birds and the efforts you guys have been putting in. I like this a lot and it shows some beautiful environment. Works well as is and with the crop.

Nice one Danielle, lovely light. I bet they feel safer on the army ranges!

I've seen some of your work at the field centre, great stuff. Hopefully I'll bump into you there in the not too distant future.

Nice shot; I like the space you've left around the bird - the framing does justice to the habitat.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks for all your replies, :toast: I have cropped off the green bit, but I'm not sure if it works  the bird looks a little cramped to me, the new crop can be found here

Simon, Its always nice to meet other forum users, I'll be hovering around there the next few weeks, as I want to make friends with the new voles, and see what fly's in to the wet meadows.

A very nice shot Danielle. I would leave it as it is in the first image.

Another great grouse shot! Despite living in Scotland, I've never seen one in heather - envious++.
