Clouds Over Mortitx..
Whilst out looking for herpetofauna in Mortitx, Mallorca I couldn't resist trying to capture the essence of the rugged landscape and the cloud formations. My first attempt at anything that might resemble landscape photography with any seriousness so very grateful of your C&Cs..

Kind regards,

Brett

I'm not a fan of B&W so I would love to see this in colour. I like the dramatic clouds that look as though they are flowing from behind the rock formation. A very good composition indeed.

B & W isn't a subject I know an awful lot about (if anything) so I'll leave the critique to those that know what they're talking about. However, I think this works quite well with the way the clouds on one side are balancing the scene with the cliff on the other side. I can't decide if it's a little too dark overall, not the cliff, but the sky. Either way it certainly makes for a dramatic image.

Birds one day, landscapes the next - what's going on, Brett?

This really leaps out at you when you open it up - very dramatic! Feels a little Ansel Adams ('Moon and Half Dome' and all that) in terms of subject and treatment - over all I think it works well.
For me, the grasses at the bottom are superfluous but cropping them out will probably unbalance the image - maybe omitting them at the time of shooting would have been preferable? Other than that, I like it - particularly the dark sky you'd get when shooting with a red filter with B&W film.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks for your comments guys. really appreciated. Landscape is something I want to improve on as I think it goes hand-in-hand with wildlife/nature photography and helps put more pieces to the puzzle when talking about animals and their environments. I might try a colourful one tomorrow..

All the best,
