When you can do it manually. Heavy rain on my day off. So here is one from July. Wasps can be very erratic in flight so it is very satisfying when you hit the target using manual focus. The flower is figwortScrophularia nodosa which wasps seem to find attractive.

nicely captured David, I like the position of the wings. The yellows of the wasp don't look quite right to me, a bit muddy and perhaps oversaturated slightly. But that's a minor nit.

Awesome! Love the lighting on the wasp! Stunning image!
I can relate to you about the rain, rain and more rain!

The light looks a little harsh to me but no mean achievement to get this hand-held. An excellent capture. Eric

Nits covered but like the focus on this one and makes for an excellent image. I can see what you were trying to achieve but a mixture of the harsh light and subsequent remedies are obviously challenging.

Nice one David
A bit small in the frame though
I have to agree with Matt that the wasp looks a bit off colour.
