Norfolk Barn Owl + answer
Hi,

Playing catch up at the moment, very busy.

I have been umming and aahing as to whether to post this... all is not what it seems... so I thought I would see if anyone can see what has been done here.

No clues and the Owl did land on that spot......

Tony has a similar shot, Brett was looking for the owl in the meadow where it was quartering... (Fran knows what I have done here)

No prizes for guessing right

nice shot Phil, the window and brickwork have plenty of character.

My guess would be that you've artificially 'blacked' the window area around the bird. It looks a bit too black perhaps, with no hint of the inside of the barn. But I might be wrong

Its a great shot would look good framed and on a wall. I agree with Matt the window looks a bit to dark...

My guess would be that a cross-frame has been removed from the window, perhaps even with panes of glass?

Good game Phil! First of many guessing-games to come I'm sure...

All the best

This is an excellent shot Phil. I would be interested to know why the bird looks so grubby, it looks like it has been rescued from a mine.

My first reaction was 'wow'. Then I read your message, and think it must be 'blacked out'. The owl is pale, so maybe a bit more colour in the gold to bring him out too?
Would look great on a greetings card :toast:

Hi Phil,

Having seen a shot of this window frame taken by others I'm not going to comment...

One thing I do wonder about the composition, if you have a little more brickwork above the window in the original, it would be nice to see at least one course in at the top. You can lose a course at the bottom without losing any of the composition. Of course, if you are like me, you only realise that after the picture has been taken.

As a wild guess might I enquire if it's something at the bottom left corner of the window frame area Phil - the edge of the wood looks a bit 'angular' there.

And I can't help but wonder why the owl has 2 right wings - at least he's got 2 sets of primaries camera side of his body - or so it seems to me.

Could this be the final proof that I really do need new glasses?

If I'm wrong I give up

I've an inkling... but only because I think I was party to a conversation between you, Brett and Tony a couple of Sundays ago about this.

I'll keep mum and let the fun continue

Its cropped very tight on the RHS, was there an ice-cream van creeping into shot? Or a handler...?

 Sooo funny.. Glad you decided to share it though.. Obviously works then if it's as difficult to spot the work involved..

Something doesn't look quite right about its right foot. It doesn't seem to be perched on the brickwork. It could be a composite of 2 pics with the window and building compensating for an uninteresting or obtrusive surround of the original perched owl.

Nice puzzle for us.

Hummmmm... Tim is sort of close(ish).... the right foot is definately on the brickwork.

The Owl DID land in that spot in that window.....

Andrew, No Ice cream van and def no handler it is a wild Owl.... there is a reason for the crop though.

You tease!

Last guess: it's a one legged barnie, the back leg was invisible and has been lifted from another shot.

If not, I give up!

Hello Phil.

Nice image.

Heres my guess.

Is it two pictures. One where you took a larger image of the owl, but then decided it would look better with all the window frame in but the owl had moved by then. So you took one of the window frame and made the owl fit into it again.

great shot Phil, what a perfect setting, haven't the faintest clue as to what you've done though
Posted by PhilH on September 3, 2009 at 10:05 AM
Hi....

Guy has got it almost spot on.... I had envisaged the image almost as shown but wasn't prepared when the owl suddenly came round the corner and landed for an all too brief moment, I still had the 1.4 attached and despite cramming my head as far back as possible in the rear seat of a freelander I managed a couple of sharp albeit crooked images. As soon as the owl flew I was able to remove the extender and get the shot of the whole window, the reason for the crop is that the window frame of the car was in the way...

In processing it was easy to line up the image of the Owl with the window and get everything the right size by using the bricks etc.....

So well done Guy.... :wavey:
