I posted this image from North Lake last year but just reprocessed and printed it last week. My previous version was a lot darker.
My exif data shows I took this on sept. 29, 2008. Can't believe it's almost been a year. Time sure has flown by. It won't be long now 'til the colors start to show up in earnest. Hope it's a good season. I'll be posting color reports on my blog as it gets closer.
When you're in the eastern sierra, make sure you guys pick up a copy of the current sept/oct issue of the Sierra Magazine as it's got an image of mine on the cover. Unfortunately they haven't updated their website yet w/ the current copy. Sorry, shameless plug.
Very nice rendition from this great location, Cory. The reflection on the calm waters is just super.
Way to go on the cover shot also. I'll keep and eye out for that addition when I get up there. Which brings up the point, are you able to make the trip to Silver Lake on the 4th?

Nice rendition. I have stood in that spot plenty of times. It makes me ready for some fall imagery!
Congratulations on the cover shot!!

@Paul: yeah, I'm hoping to stop by.

Congrats on the cover Cory. A photog friend and I are going up to shoot the last week of September so I'll be sure to keep an eye out for the cover.
I will be staying at the Crooked Creek Station atop the White Mountains from 9-20 thru 9-24. You are welcome to stop by, and we can shoot some really old trees or the aspen color down in Cottonwood Basin.
Congrats on the publication Cory! I'm gonna be heading up that way a few times, can't wait!

I get a broken link for some reason and can't see the image. Oh well, I'm sure it is sweet considering it made the cover. Congrats!
Edit: Now I see it after my post... good stuff! Can't wait to get up there myself soon.

Cory,
What a gorgeous Fall Colors shot! This one of the best I have seen compositionally of North Lake.
I know the location is a CA icon. But for some reason it never really did much for me especially after living in CO and shooting places like the Maroon Bells or the San Juans. I mean overall it seems to have all the elements necessary for a nice Fall Colors grand scenic. But I don't know what it is thats usually missing, maybe not enough interesting foreground or a dwarfing of the killer background peaks. Hmmm... Maybe it is much harder to shot than it looks? Any thoughts as to why this might be?
I am going to try and make it up there this year. Unfortunately I have a ton of stuff going on at work right now. So I haven't been able to get out and shoot very much lately.
Thanks again for the encouragement to get out there this year!
Any early signs of color or predictions of when whether things might be starting earlier or later then normal peak? By looking at most posts peak seems to be right around the end of Sept. to the first week in Oct.

Thanks guys!
@Jeffrey: thnx for the invite, but I'm backpacking that weekend you arrive and then working for the rest of the days you are there. My dad and I drove past Crooked Creek sta. in July and stopped at the top of cottonwood basin. We decided not to go down as it was late in the day and decided to save it for another day. Friends of mine have said it's really cool down there. We wondered what the heck they do there at CC?
@Eric: glad U were able to see it, must've been a hickup on the google servers
@Derek: thanks. Call me biased but the bells got nothin on NL jk that is a nice shot you linked to. inregards to your ? perhaps is due to the memories you have for the rockies vs a new place. It's hard to compete w/ a location that has a special place in your heart. Know what I mean. Hopefully you can make it out and see it in person and perhaps it may be more impressive.
As to fall color predictions, I was just out in Rock Creek Canyon yesterday and color is already started showing, more so at this time than I recall the previous three seasons. Color may just peak sooner this year. I'll keep updates on my blog.
I really like this rendition, Cory! It looks like a bright, Sierra fall day. Good job!
If I might ask, would you mind starting a new topic regarding East Side fall color updates and posting such in that thread? I'll 'feature' the topic, if you'd like to do this for us.
Personally, I'm not much of blog reader--I don't have the time. However, I do look in on CANP every day. I am not sure if others here are in the same boat as I, but I think having updates here at CANP would be very nice. Just a thought.
Thanks!
On another note: I've seen a little color here, as well. I wonder if it is just due to the drought and low moisture content, rather than true Autumn color change?

Hey PB! ya, I can keep ya posted on fall color thread here. I don't know why the color is coming on so quick. I've got a question into Steven Bourelle who used to live here in Bishop asking the same thing. I'll head up bishop canyon later today and see what's going on up that way. I hope they aren't going to peak until the end of the month, 'cause I'm not ready yet!

Hey Corey
Was just up in the sierras over the weekend and picked up the mag because the cover shot was so cool. Checked to see who the photographer was I immediately recognized your name from CANP. Congrats as the image is stunning.

thanks for sharing that Mike. I'll have to pass that on to the editor so they use more of my images for the cover!

Cool Cory. Sorry for messing up your name in the previous post!
Yeah, I like the image and the additional shots on the inside from the other photogs too. The magazine itself seems really well made. They seem to use highquality paper and materials because the images looks sharp with great colors. Congrats again on the cover shot.

Congrats on the publication. That's a big deal the cover, so many will see that!

Cory, just spent 3 days fishing in the Bridgeport area, stopped at the local market to pick up some supplies and saw a Sierra Magazine on the rack with a beautiful picture of a tumbling creek in fall colors and said, "gotta be Cory's" Beautiful pic, looks great as a front cover, congrats

The one thing really nice about the Bells for example is that you can really fill the frame with the peaks and trees along the sides. Plus as a bonus you can also get fresh snow all around the lake during the Fall. Here is an example of what I am talking about: http://landandseaphoto.smugmug.com/Fall/Aspen-San-Juans-2006/4089506_D9scR#238363428_voX8K-A-LB
