A Belter
I have been watching a Belted Kingfisher land on a perch at a very busy lake (joggers) that i go to when i walk my dog so yesterday i decided to see if i could get an image, The problem with the perch is that the bird only seems to use it in the evening and that makes the bird back lit-so i used some fill flash and to my suprise the bird was not at all fazed and i ended the session with 187 images of which this is one of the better ones-back tomorrow

Nikon D3 600f4vr+1.4x
1/60@F11
ISO400 Remote
Flash and better beamer

Good one Dave. The back-lighting works great for highlighting that wonderful crest.

Dave

A cracking shot of a great species.

I've spent many hours over the past three years with two BK but they persist in sitting on a non photogenic wire cable. Perhaps one day.

Hi Dave,

Great subject to photograph. I feel the backlighting is still a little overpowering despite your best efforts. I'm sure you'll crack it in the next couple of days. Great bonus with the fish!

I guess it is because of all the colours within the image but it seems to give a slight greenish cast? Nice back-lighting though, that is nice and the general comp too so well done !
