I downloaded Photo Tools 2 lite plugin (freeware) after I upgraded to a 64 bit Vista machine. After reinstalling CS4 and Lightroom 2 with no problems, I installed Photo Tools plugin without a hitch. I processed a photo in a trial run, intending to run the plugin. Not there! I installed it again, paying closer attention to where it went. It went to the x86 program directory. I went there and found to my surprise the 32-bit version of Photoshop. I opened the executable and there was the plugin!

I put the shortcut on my desktop, and am using it, along with the 32 bit version of Bridge, and ACR as an alternative process whenever I have an image I think will benefit from Photo Tools.

Philip,
When you install the 64 bit version of Photoshop, the 32 bit version gets installed also. Since most (my favorite unfortunately) plugins are not yet 64 bit, when you install one, it gets installed with the 32 version of PS. Thanks for the link BTW.

Hi Philip,
I found the same problem a while back, and as Paul said, most of the plugins available for Photoshop, are not usable in the 64bit version. Now the kind of big pain that I have not found a work around yet; if you are using Bridge, and want to open an image for editing, the 64bit version will open(and from what I can find) is the default without the option for opening the 32bit version. I currently use OnOne Suite, KPT, Tiffen, and I cant use any of them in PS 64bit. Hopefully there will come a workaround from the plugin mfg's sometime soon

Ditto the above. I am not a heavy plug-in user, but one of the few I use is Genuine Fractals 6. OneOne software has not yet upgraded their software to run in CS4 64 bit, which is unfortunate , as the memory intensive processes would really benefit from the extended RAM range that 64 bit architecture provides.

You will have to use CS4 32 bit to access the OneOne plug-ins.

I know that Noise Ninja (Picture Code), Noiseware (Imagenomic), Curvemeister, the Photokit plug-in set and Photomatix have 64-bit versions and run OK with PS 64-bit. Neat Image has a 64-bit version, but its a payable upgrade.

So my workflow typically starts with Noise Ninja, and Curvemeister, and then I move over to PS 32-bit to finish off.

When I want to use my 32-bit plugins, I open the 32-bit version of CS4 first. I then click on the "browse in Bridge" icon. Any photo or RAW file I click on after that goes either through ACR, then on to the 32-bit PS, or directly to the 32-bit PS. It is a workaround, you just have to decide initially if the 32-bit plugins would be helpful. I use Noise Ninja and the TLR sharpeners in 64 bit. The only other I use is the OnOne plugin, and I am familiar enough with those to know when I am gilding the lily.
