Hello all.. I will be in YNP and GTNP, Sept 19-25. Spending one day in GTNP at least then on to YNP. I plan to do sunset at Oxbow Bend (any better spot?) and sunrise at schwabacher landing... Other suggestions?
YNP: Quick suggestions for great sunrise and sunset spots there?
Thanks
Mark

Oxbow Bend is better for sunrise but is ok for sunset. Snake River Overlook is also good for both but better for sunrise. The old ranch building on Antelope Flats road in GTNP is good for sunrise.
In YNP, where the Yellowstone River exits Hayden Valley is good for sunrise. Mammoth Hot Springs area is good for sunrise. If the elk are in the Madison River valley, that would be good for sunset and also sunrise.

Tetons - Sunrise:
Oxbow Bend
Schwabacher Landing
Mormon Barns
Blacktail Ponds Overlook
Jenny Lake
Sunset is a crap shoot because it really depends on the sky conditions and availability of some interesting colors/clouds. I guess the same could be said for the AM but even with a clear sky, you can still get some nice images. My suggestion for late afternoons in the Teton fall is to concentrate on wildlife. The elk rut is something to behold.

I will driving into GTNP late Thurs/Friday morning the 25th and staying till Tue the 29th
This will be my 3rd fall trip; I always do first sunrise in the Tetons then drive into Yellowstone. Then hit the Tetons again for a day before I head out of town. Don & Carl hit some of the biggies you don't want to miss. One of my personal fav's that I found my last trip is the deck behind Grand Teton Lodge. I never fought for a spot during sunrise and it's an incredible panoramic view. My fav sunset spot in Yellowstone is Great Fountain Geyser. Last year I scouted out some nice spots for sunset maybe sunrise along Yellowstone Lake. Don’t forget the road between Madison and Norris is closed in YNP, I also heard there is a fair amount of construction on the road from the Tetons to YNP south entrance
Have a safe trip.
Kurt
It would be cool to bump into some fellow RMNP folks. If you happen to see a white chevy s-10 with white topper and Colorado plates say Hi
Found this in my favorites and it helped me get around the tetons for my first trip http://www.wyofoto.com/Teton_Photo_Map.htm

Don' dismiss Schwabachers for sunset if you have a cloudy sky. Yes it is usually a sunrise spot but I got a very cool sunset there a year or so ago.

look ar Ansel Adam's Teton photos for good locations. I like the one from the North end of Jackson Lake looking south. first light is pretty cool.
