I was out just before sunset last night and I have this lone sunflower plant on my patio so I though I would play with a non-flash and flash setting...very interesting results....this is the original

and with the flash

I brightened it a bit

I think you could brighten the yellow one, too, or play with some filters, because it almost looks like a painting now. Very nice! Crazy colors in the second, but it does make it artistic.

Interesting...I would have sworn that the first was the 'flashed' shot.
Did you use a 'flash' or custom WB setting on the second?

Believe it or not John, it was with my Canon G10, auto settings, in macro mode. I agree, you would think the first one was the flash...kinda weird isn't it?

I really like that last image. Kind of surreal.

Hmmm...the flash version looks like it's quite a bit underexposed. I wonder if the camera's sensor saw the bright yellow flower in the middle and dialed back the flash exposure in an effort to avoid blowing it out?
Also, that really looks like a flash shadow on the stem of the non-flash image - but maybe it's from the late-evening sun at a low angle?

I'm with Erik,
Check your histogram. I'm willing to bet the flash shot is way underexposed. Another thought would be that the flash completely missed the flower.

Thats a possibility Ken. I was fairly close to the flower in macro mode on the 2nd one. I did check the exif data and it was f2.8, 6mm, macro mode 1/60sec flash fired.
The first one was: f4, 18mm, no macro, no flash, 1/60 sec. both were in auto mode so I didn't set any WB or anything like that. I just found it interesting that I could get such a difference in color with no photoshopping whatsoever.
