Due to the warm weather, they were quite active today, and hard to pin down - patient stalking required.

Whitefaced Meadowhawk - Sympetrum obtrusum

Whitefaced Meadowhawk female/juvenile -

I've not seen this phase of this dragonfly before

Canada Darner - Aeshna canadensis
or possibly Lake Darner - Aeshna eremita
or possibly Green-striped Darner - Aeshna verticalis

Tried to increase DOF on this one, but it's kind of grainy in hi-res since I had to bump up the ISO to support f11. Wings are in focus in the side shot however, so that's a plus (needed for ID)
Here's the straight-on shot - much clearer/cleaner (but no ID on the thorax).

All comments appreciated.

My favorite has to be the green one, Arne...nicely done!

Some nice shots. I agree with Toni the Common Green is the best. As I mentioned in an earlier post you can bet better control of the dof if you use Helicon Focus software. It allows you to separate the subject from the background.

I understand the concept (Helicon Focus) - just not quite ready to jump into it yet. I appreciate the input!
