The next UKNP gathering is at RSPB Snettisham, in Norfolk.
Date: Saturday 19th Sept 2009 Venue: RSPB Snettisham Time: 06:15 onwards (around the hides) in the morning to coincide with the high spring (Hunstanton) 07:06. Sunrise is 06:43 and twlight is from 06:16. Species: Knot. Note: It is about a 30-40min walk from the carpark to the pit hides.
NOTE: The evening tides are not that high. For those staying on the better day may be Sunday as the tide is slightly later and higher.
Advisory and expectation: Whilst Snettisham roost can be a stunning sight, Chris O'R and myself were at the Snettisham roost for this years August spring high tide and we both watched all the Knot go north and NOT into the Snettisham Pits hence all we photographed were OC's: nature is not totally predictable.

I'm in the area that weekend, so I'll see you all there.

Regrettably, I am unable to make it up there now. I had a bad car smash on the bank holiday weekend and won't have transport to get there, because my rent car will have to go back to the company.

I'll try to get there. I'm staying with my parents over near Cromer, so may not make it....

Tom - from looking at the tide times, high tide at Hunstanton is 6.06 according to the BBC. I've been to Snettisham a few times before, but have not witnessed a roost. I don't know how long the birds hang about after high tide ? As you've mentioned, this is not a precise science but can anyone share their experiences as it's a long way to go to miss all the action Chrs, Graham.
Graham that 6.06 is GMT, had an hour for BST (07:06)
The birds can hang in the pits for around 1.5 hours after the high, somethimes more. What you hope for is a BOP to unsettle them a wee bit that way they flit around.
That said, the last time there all went north

Right - I will do my level best to be there in that case. Thanks for clarifying Tom.
