I did this as a panorama this time (actually a slough, vs lake). Finally got a brief shower, so there was something in the sky for a change!

On an historical note, Kelly’s Slough was named after a man who once farmed our land in the early 1900s. He died from gangrene in a gash suffered from a utility motor (gas engine starter kickback). His wife (Echo) raised twin boys by herself - never remarried. There are still Kelly’s living near the slough. In the 30s, the slough was dry, and planted in vegetables.
BTW, our farm is over the top of the trees on the right.
Comments appreciated.

Good capture of this scene, Arne! Nice pastel colors, just the right amount of clouds to add interest to the sky. Thanks for including the story about the Kelly family!

The sky here has some really nice color, but outside of the sky, there's not a lot going on. There is only a hint of the water, and I'm sure if you were able to get closer to the water's edge, those gorgeous sky colors would be reflected in the water, offering some nice composition possibilities. I'm not sure if you wanted the foreground to be in silhouette, but if you did want some details left in the FG, you might want to add a ND grad filter to darken the sky a few stops, while keeping the FG details.
For my money, the action here is all in the left-hand 3/5 or so of the image. I don't mind the silhouetting (I don't find it overpowering the composition) if you crop off everything slightly to the right of the top layer of clouds. Doing so will have the added bonus, as I see it, of moving the sun off-center in the composition.

Thanks for the suggestions. Here's a revised version, hopefully with the comments incorporated. I confess I didn't bring waders for a closer shot.

Just got back from Canada (Quetico Provincial Park), so this one probably doesn't count as midwest (but I like it).
