Hi all
Went out to photograph a field full of Scabious for a client but couldn't resist taking this Small Tortoiseshell. I feel this image is a bit different from what I normally take, hence the title. Its hard to break the mould after all these years.
I usually like the full frame images of butterfly's but wanted something different from my usual images so decided to go outside the box and put the 70-200mm to try and get the habitat in with it aswell. This is the first time I've photographed Small Tortoiseshell so I was pleased with the result. Still a few nice evenings coming up so I may have to pay them another visit!!
Comments and crits always welcome.

Thanks Jorne,
I think it was a case of luck really and standing in the right place! I noticed the strong backlighting on the butterflies as they nectared and this is what i visioned.
This is lovely. SOOOOO nice to see environment - and when its as well done as this so much the better. If I was to make a small crit (and this would be minor) its the couple of heads behind the left side wing which are a wee bit distracting - but not so much that they spoil my enjoyment of this splendid image.

The colours of the butterfly contrast so wonderfully with plants, and the lighting is wonderful.

First class image. The different approach has paid off handsomely. Eric
I absolutely love this. The field of flowers would be beautiful on their own but the addition of the butterfly adds interest to the shot. Very nice indeed.

Outside thinking is the way to go!! I love the sharpness of the butterfly against the almost impressionistic BG. Very nice indeed.
This is wonderful. I really like this a lot. Nicely composed and very well seen.

Thank you all for your kind comments. Its great that it appeals to the majority. Thanks for being honest John with regards to the dead flower head. Its like writing a long paragraph and not noticing your mistakes until someone else points them out, no matter how many times you read it. I will go again tonight and see what I can do.
