Hi there RMNPers. I am a PNWNPer living in Portland, OR. I will be visiting Arizona for 4 days a week from now. I am going with my girlfriend and the trip is mainly a visiting trip to see her grandma who is not doing well. However, on Friday(9/18) we will spend one day in Sedona which is about an hour from where her grandma lives. I know that is a very limited time frame and not nearly enough time to fully experience and appreciate the area. However, if you only had one day to shoot Sedona what places would you visit? I am going to attempt to be there for both sunrise and sunset to maximize my potential for the right light as I mostly shoot landscapes. Is there anything worth shooting during the day or should I just take a break and try and stay out of the heat at that time? What about wildlife? I do have the Canon 100-400mm lens so I may be interested in shooting some wildlife during the day if there are any good recommendations on places near Sedona for that. If you would like to get an idea of my shooting style please take a look at my website at http://www.austinbooth.com. Thank you, I really appreciate any suggestions you guys can offer me.

Red rock crossing (fee) is a popular destination that everyone and their brother takes a picture of. Take the trails around cathedral and/or bell rock down in the village of Oak Creek (real close to Sedona). Devil's bridge is a nice morning walk, but move fast, it's still pretty warm there right now. I'd recommend going up Oak Creek Canyon and hiking either pumphouse wash or west fork of oak creek (fee). You'll be lucky if you see any wildlife around Sedona.

The A.B.Young Trail in Oak Creek Canyon is a great trail that leads to some great views down into Sedona. It's a tough hike, but well worth the climb. Either sunrise or sunset would be stunning from the top, but take a headlamp, and be prepared for 1 mile up and 1mile down.
