Although I got very close to the long-staying juvenile shrike at Dungeness, I was not terribly excited with the pictures I got of it. The best were on my last but two posting. Last weekend I went back for a second go, and got a lot nearer what I wanted in the first place.
This is a crop of about 25% from the original frame, with a very obtrusive stick in the background removed.

Nice shot David, the background works well but I think I can see some marks were the "stick" was, bottom right?

Liam,
I checked, and checked again, before posting it - but you are absolutely right, perhaps it is some funny result of compression or something. At least you didn't spot the bit top right as well!

Nit aside, that's really nice David. I've never seen one myself, and I didn't realise that their markings were so detailed. Eric

Hi David, its a wopping crop added to that the equivalent 900mm of glass out front its stayed remarkably sharp .As liam has said the patch bottom right is a nasty one and the gentle application of the patch tool with a tadge of cloning over may hide the affliction. Super BG al lthe same and a rare find .

Nit notwithstanding a very nice image indeed. The subject and excellent perch standing out well against the BG.
A very nice image and lovely background David. Compression can be a real bind. Seems to show up everything that you don't want it to.

Would love to get the opportunity with one of these. The clean background really boosts this image and the eye is really sharp and clear for such a large crop.

Great shot and I love the perch its on because of how this bird hunts. A good underlying metaphor. Great stuff in this photo. Love the soft light. Good sharp image.
