Another Peeler Lake
I recently posed this image over at NPN, but didn't get much of a response. But I did want to share it here. I was particularly drawn to the deep blues in the lake and the subtle reflections. I'm also a sucker for granite walls of any type. All comments welcom.
Chamonix 4x5, Fuji 240mm, Velvia 100F. Best Regards.

Nice reflection Michael. It's composed pretty well with strong shapes that lead you in but you're darks are too dark. Maybe easier on the dynamic range to shoot it when the sun is on the other side of the horizon around dusk or dawn. I do like all the detail in the top center of the rock.

I too am a sucker for that Sierra granite. While I like all the elements included here (especially the mirrored sweeping curve in both the reflection and water line), it did take a bit longer to grab me than I expected. Maybe it's because my mind wants to see a bit of the sky and treetops... not sure about that though. The only thing I might suggest is to balance out the brightness levels of the clouds in the reflection. Other than that it looks good to me.

Michael,

I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to comment on this one in ESS - I get in these on/off commenting modes and I try to use equal opportunity non-commenting.... :-)

I really like the texture, color painterly look of the of the water. I'd say the color balance looks good here too. Perhaps more so that the other image, the shadows and resulting contrast are slightly heavy, especially in the granite. Looks more like an issue of choice that an issue (like color balance "use" to be.) You did well with the exposure considering that corner of light on the trees. Not sure if they add to the composition, but that corner doesn't bother me either.
I'm mostly entranced with the water and reflection - like a painting. Looks like you got some nice shooting in on your backpacking trip.

That granite has got loads of great textures in it.. so great, in fact, that I wonder if you took a more intimate comp of just the granite and reflection?
