OT: Photos from Norway!
This summer I spent six weeks in Norway, doing nothing but hiking and photographing the mountains there. I've finally processed and posted my favorite photos, both film (4x5) and digital (Oly E-620).

Check them out: http://www.widerange.org/gallery.php?gallery=norway

I'm glad to be back home in Colorado, and am getting pumped for fall colors! I hope to see you out amongst the aspens.

Thanks for looking. :wavey:

Holy crap. Youve outdone yourself. This stuff is up there with the best landscape shots I've seen.

Amazing stuff, Jack! All photos, but the Reine Panorama... WOW! Stunning!

That's one impressive collection, Jack! Beautiful stuff. I hope you're pitching some of these to travel magazines. BTW, I've now added Norway to my list of places to visit.

Like nothing I've ever seen, both location-wise and visually. Stunned. Stunning. Gotta go, I'm selling all my camera gear on eBay, since I'll never attain this level of artistry...

One of the best trips you've had, judging by the photos you brought home. Truly amazing stuff, dude!
Posted by Bret Edge on September 11, 2009 at 10:03 AM
I guess I need to add Norway to that ridiculously long and ever-growing list of places I need to visit/hike/photograph/fall in love with. Otertind Morning continues to blow my mind every time I see it. That is one seriously impressive and graceful peak!

Wow, this would be a dream trip for me. Awesome images Jack, I can only imagine what an experience this was. I will get there some day, my Grandmother's family still lives there and I promised her that I would go there myself. Great work Jack!

This is a great series and the Reine Panorama is spectacular. You wield your camera like Thor wields Mjöllnir!

Great work Jack!
Norway is absolutely on my list

Wonderful Jack, I didn't realize that Norway was so colorful!

I will have to go back and study these much more intensively, but the quick look is magnificent. Norway has a very Middle Earth quality much like NZ. Lucky man and your talent shines.

Absolutely gorgeous images Jack. The amazing scenery along with your killer talent has resulted in yet another superb collection. Congrats on a successful trip! :toast:

Made my day! Everyone else stole the superlatives: just awesome all around!
Posted by Steven Peckham on September 11, 2009 at 12:13 PM

As you have already heard, this is an incredible set of images. :toast: Makes me want to quit work, grab, my gear, and get out shooting. (Of course, I will have to keep my day job.)

Holy crap Jack, these are just fantastic! You managed to make Norway to look even more beautiful than New Zealand. I'd be honored to hang any of a dozen of your shots in my living room. Reine Panorama and Vøringfossen are my favorites. Just when I start to feel good about my portfolio, I see your latest trip collection and think I should focus on my golf game instead. Great work!! :toast:

WOW! I can't pick a favorite, I just can't. Well done. :toast:

Great stuff. i can't imagine how much hiking you did to get to all these great views.
Posted by bill meikle on September 11, 2009 at 2:41 PM
Jack, it looks like the white balance in this shot is quite different than the auto setting, is this a technique you often use to get the best out of your photos? I thought it was interesting and enhances the image.
Posted by Jack Brauer on September 11, 2009 at 2:48 PM
Thank you all for your kind comments!!!!

Bill - This shot used the special "Provia" setting. Hahahaha... yeah this one was film, minimal processing on it.

Wow Jack, I think you've just started a whole migration of photographers to Norway...
Posted by Morris McClung on September 11, 2009 at 6:25 PM
Dude, why do I even bother. Jack, I don't even know what to say. There aren't enough or even adequate superlatives.
Posted by Richard Voninski on September 11, 2009 at 8:54 PM
Great stuff Jack.

Min Gud!
What a ravishing series of images from a place that doesn't warrant much attention in the photographic world.
I almost feel lucky to have viewed such fine work from a place that I doubt I'll ever see.

Amazing collection. It was fun to go through it 2-3 times. Thanks for sharing.

Jack... I sat here in awe looking at your collection. Never seen anything like this.... I love all of them.... great job...what a productive trip!!!?  I think I have to sell my gear too.... :toast:
Posted by Scott Fricke on September 12, 2009 at 10:55 AM
Jack, great collection of work, I had a lot of favorites but the Voringfossen image was the tops for me.
Posted by Erik Aagaard on September 12, 2009 at 2:00 PM
Wow - what a trip! I especially enjoyed reading your blog, which provides evidence of all the work that went into these images. Someone casually scrolling through your gallery might think that Norwegian summers are nothing but glorious light for 24 hours a day, and that anyone can drive to the top of a mountain and snap the same shot. Your blog demonstrates otherwise -- Norway can be wet, windy, and unforgiving, and those mountains are steep and hard to get to! Awesome work. Made my mother homesick!
Posted by Stan Rose on September 12, 2009 at 5:04 PM
Wow, what an amazing series! Foolish to pick a fav, but Lofoten Light is proably my pick for overall "wow" factor.
Posted by Dave Showalter` on September 14, 2009 at 1:59 PM
Well, that was pretty crazy - I think I went through the whole series four times! Congrats on a truly remarkable and "wide range" of imagery that is beyond impressive! Faves - Lofoten Sunset, Stetind Reflection, Trollveggen Dawn..........and a bunch of others. :toast: :toast: :toast:

Jack,

I was talking about these yesterday with Stan Dunes and Todd. Your pictures have put Norway on my shortest list to visit now. Given that I heading to NZ soon enough guess I'll keep following in your footsteps.

Unbelievable, I never knew Norway was so beautiful! I've always wanted to go to New Zealand but now I'm definitely adding Norway as a place to photograph. Those 4x5 shots are simply amazing, almost makes me want to use film again; almost. I hope my work can be as good as yours someday!
