Paradise Falls
It was a windy day in Thousand Oaks so I just went with the faster shutter speed to freeze the catails.

5D 24-105 iso 3200. Iso 3200 on that old 5D usually doesn't give good results but every thing in the histogram was there so it worked out fine.

I think the quote unquote "soft waterfall" treatment perhaps a trifle overdone. Your photo is a bit of a departure for you Steve, it's more intimate and introspective. I like it and by your description it's local near your hometown It reminds me of a place you might sneak away to and just relax to the sounds of moving water. The closest waterfall for me is Mt. San Antonio Falls, the trail going up there is just off Manker Flats where the old 30's ski area for Mt. Baldy was. The trail is pretty well used but the walk down to the falls is shall we say interesting. Once close you could feel the power and you were alone.

Steve,

I can certainly appreciate what you tried to or had to do with the shutter speed and freezing the cattails, but I honestly have to say this one isn't moving me too much. It's a bit flat color wise and while you succeeded in freezing and capturing detail in the cattails, I think it left the waterfall in a "tweener" state. SS to slow to freeze the action like Paul's example, and not slow enough for the soft, silky look.

Nice image, doesn't rank up there with your good stuff.

Definitely more documentary than your normal stuff. I think I like it best with a small crop off the top to eliminate that smaller water fall to the left.

Thanks Paul, Floris, Lon and Eric.
I'm always on departure just don't share much of it. I guess I could blend in the softwater exposure but that would be more work  I don't see catails often. the crop does make it better.

Steve, Nice idea with this composition, but compared to your other beautiful images, its not quite there. Best Regards.
