Stands out nicely from the background. The wood looks slightly magenta to me, is that how it was or is there a slight colour cast?

David

I see the same cast but that's how it was or rather is. I wouldn't know how to handle adding or adjusting colour.

Hi Barry,

It isn't difficult in Photoshop Elements. On the "Enhance" menu, "Colour" section, there is a colour cast tool where you simply have to click on part of the picture that should be white, grey or black. I hope you don't mind, but I have tried this and after several false starts I got this, only you can judge whether it is better or not.

The bird is fantastic! You've held the exposure very nicely on the breast. I would crop a little from the left for balance and I think the colours in the repost are indeed better. Lovely image.

Beautiful bird-not seen one here,Looks nice and sharp, Ths comp doesnt work for me and am sure there is a better one-maybe as Ian says trim the left a tad,When processsing i go to levels and adjust all colours-RBG in the drop down that tends to get rid os any colour casts

Thanks guy's really makes for an interesting subject when different interpretations are added. Why does the magenta just effect the railroad tye?

From the adjusted versions other colours change so could this be a factor relative to the various colour calibrations we each have on our monitors?

Thanks for looking and contributing its appreciated.

Barry

For me there are a few factors in this shot which I would look at.

Firstly the colour cast is to a certain extent in the eye of the beholder. I would suggest calibrating your monitor though, as the first step, but do not forget that not everyones monitor will also be calibrated, and everyone see's colours differently. I had a lot of frustration when I first started using Photoshop, but a good friend of mine loaned me some tutorial disks which cleared up a lot of problems, so I would suggest trying to get hold of some, they rearly worked for me.

Now for me this image needs to be taken from a slightly higher viewpoint, in order to show the feet. Also the perch is far too dominent in the frame.

I believe this is an adult male Baltimore Oriole, and they eat both insects and fruit, so your choice of perches is rather wide. I would position a suitable perch to one side of the post, and on the top of the post I would nail down a container into which I would place for example Mealworms. Position the perch so that your subjects are coming down to the food.

I would suggest that you try and get hold of LL Rues DVD's as i think they explain this type of situation really well.

Just a few thoughts.

By the way, the Oriole itself, is excellent.

Barry

I can only echo Sarah’s comments.

Sarah, I have sent you an email, I am interested in the LL Rue DVD’s, I have heard good reports of them, but I believe that they are only available second hand now.
