"I have never seen a wild thing feel sorry for itself. A little bird will fall dead, frozen from a bough, without ever having felt sorry for itself." D. H. Lawrence.
It's hard not to anthropomorphise animals, especially charismatic birds like kingfishers, and although this individual was in fine fettle it humbling to think about what a hard life species other than humans have.
This female left me shaking with excitement after our brief encounter in near perfect light last week.
She turned round as well but I wanted to share this nice pose.

Hi Chris, nice shot but I feel there is too much shadow around the birds face. Nice clean background. Can't wait to see your other shots.

As Ian said, the shadow on the face lets it down a bit but if you have other shots that improve on this then you can't complain

Nice shot Chris and certainly better than any Kingfisher shot of mine.
Nice image Chris, nit is mentioned but on a personal note, I'd like just a tad more space to the left of the KF.

Lovely clean b/g and pose. Shame about the shadows, but then nature doesn't always dish up what we would like. A good catch.

Nice image of this very difficult subject. Good pose, perch, comp & BG.

an excellent Kingfisher shot Chris, I one I would love to have taken. I agree that, ideally, the eye wouldn't be in shadow, but still a very nice achievement.
