Hi,
I've been asked to submit 3 images for publication at 5" X 7", 300 dpi. Could someone give me the 1, 2, 3 basic steps on how to do this in PhotoShop?
I haven't done this in a long time and am not sure if I am doing it right since I haven't done much editing, other than cropping. I think I've done it correctly, but want to be sure.
Thank you.

Allen - Basically that means they want a file that's 1500 pixels by 2100 pixels. You can do this in a couple of different ways.
1) If you're starting with an image that has that same aspect ratio, you can just use the Image Size dialog, and change the pixel dimensions, or use the inches/ppi section to create an image that's the right size.
2) If the image isn't the right aspect ratio you're going to have to decide how to crop it to the right ratio before resizing. You can either use the rectangular marquee tool set to the 5x7 ratio, and then resize as in #1. OR you can use the crop tool to do it all in one step (by setting the size and ppi in the crop tool options).
If you down-size it yourself, as in #1, you can pick the type of interpolation used. If you do it at one shot with the crop tool, you'll get the default method set in your preferences (probably bicubic). It might not make a different but might be worth exploring the differece between bicubic and bicubic sharper. Either way, after re-sizing you'll probably want to sharpen the image and maybe touch some other things up before sending it off.
And if you want to, you could get into multi-step flows that may get you a little more quality when you down-size the image.
If you need more explicit instructions, just say so and I (or someone else) can get more detailed. Good luck!

This worked great. Thank you. I had to do it at the last minute so your instructions helped.
