First post. Taken last month in a Tall Bluestem pasture near Topeka, Kansas. Nikon D700, F/1.4 prime manual, 1/30 sec, ISO under 200, aperature priority f/8.
Russian Thistle is a noxious weed but the blossom is pretty and attracts a loth of insects and butterflies.
Comments appreciated.

Glad to see you posting on CSNP Larry! The main thistle has some real nice silhouette detail and I like the subtle hint of light on the fg stems. Nice sky to boot. Looking forward to seeing more.

Hi Larry,
Really nice to see you start sharing some image post. I find thistles hard to resist, shooting that is. Lots of nice forms, the low angle on this silhouette works nicely with the great sky in the distance.
Thanks for sharing.

Nicely done Larry.
During a recent walking tour of the prairies at Shaw Nature Preserve the prairie expert said that some thistles are actually beneficial to the prairie. The musk thistle is not. No mention was made of the russian thistle so I do not know if it is an invasive.
