A couple of friends and I spent a couple nights and days in the Hidden Lakes area of Little Lakes Valley last weekend. It was a beautiful couple of days. Took this shot, between 5-530pm, just after making camp. I'm really enthralled w/ the greens in the water and in the grasses in this area. Maybe it's because I don't see much green down here in bishop?
I love this late afternoon light which really "pops" the colors of the grass around the lake. I hand blended two exposures, one for the sky/mountains and one for everything else. I hope I succeeded in creating a natural feel between the two.

Cory,
This is simply gorgeous! What a beautiful High Sierra landscape. The clarity is excellent and looks to me like the blend is flawless.
Makes me wish I was there.

Afternoon light under patchy clouds like this is always nice. I love the way the fringe of grass around the lake catches the light, and the grass across the bottom helps frames the scene well. I do notice some evidence of the blend, but it's not too bad. I've always wanted to check out hidden lakes, but have never made it off the main trail. One of these days...

Discovering green in California is always fun. Not much here in San Diego either. Only after the Winter rains. Beautiful shot. Great framing with the trees, mountains and grass. Excellent job. Thanks for the post.
Relatively new to California and only been up to the southern sierras - Kings Canyon -but I had to ask is that snow on the mountains? This late in the Summer?

thanks for leaving a comment Anish & David.
@Anish: definitely recommend going off the trail and exploring. Just don't tell anyone...;)
@David: yep, that's snow left over from last winter. we had a very cold/snowy/wet June that added to the snowpack and pushed summer off 'til July.
Cory, as I live in the concrete jungle down here in So Cal, anything with greenery, nice water, and a wonderful sky like this one is a real treat anytime for me. The sierras really does have it all. Thanks for sharing this one, and keeping us always updated on the area & weather overall.
Hope to see you on the 4th.....

I really like the late afternoon sunlight here. We go there often and I spent four days backcountry skiing up there last year. Beautiful area.
