Hello,
I am working on a batch of pictures to send into my stock agency and need to get them to Tiff 8-bit images. I have them converted to TIFF but checked properties and the say they are 24-bit depth? Is this the same as a 24-bit image? If so how can I convert them to 8-bit using Photoshop Elements 7? Thank you!

I think they are 8 bit. The 24 comes from three channels, red, blue and green, each of which are 8 bit. 3x8 = 24.

Unless Elements has changed, it works in 8, 16 and maybe 32 bit (the last for HDR), not 24 per channel.

To check in CS2, go to image/mode. The drop down gives the choice of 8, 16 or 32. Check 8. You should be fine.

(I know, Elements will probably be a bit different, but that at least gives an idea as to what to be looking for.)

Dan is correct. There are 8 bits/channel in an "8-bit" image giving the total total of 24. As he said, you can verify this in PS. I just checked in PSCS2; The choices are 8 Bits/Channel, 16 Bits/channel. and 32 Bits/channel. The last is 'greyed' out becasue I'm not working in HDR.

Go to Image>Mode to check. If image is 8 bit, 8 bit will be checked. If not, check 8 bit to convert the image to 8 bit.
