Using light without flash.

I spent many hours trying to improve results by re-positioning as an alternative rather than use flash. Not sure it worked.

Advice Critique Comment most welcome.

1D3 Canon 800mm 1/30sec f/7.1 ISO320 tripod in hide.

Thanks for looking

Its nearly a cracker Barry, but the head just doesn't look sharp! At that shutter speed the camera really does need to be rock solid on the tripod with no movement of the subject at all. Perhaps set up and then use a cable release.

Cheers,

Lewis.

Hi Barry,

Lovely subject, also BG and perch and pose are all very good. Sharpness has been mentioned. If you get another go, open the lens aperture up and use a higher ISO, this should give you a much better shutter speed.

Regards

Nit mentioned, the BG is excellent though, have another go and you'll have something REALLY special.

Thank's guy's this was prior to having the 1D3 fix and the lens calibrated I'm now running a comparision with results. Sharpness seems to be much better now.

I get these guys in my garden although i havent tried to shoot them yet,Lovely setting but looking at the specs 1/30 with an 800mm lens you can see why its soft, You can do this if you use a remote cable and dont touch the camera/lens,will be great if you get to reshoot this

agreed it certainly isn't sharp, it looks like motion blur which is not surprising at 1/30th, you need rock steady technique at that fl and ss.

All the best

Hello Barry

The comp and the light is there on this image Barry and what a cracking little subject, just a shame about sharpness but it will all fall into place if you keep trying for it :toast: :toast:
