I rcently bought an Eizo CG241W monitor, and love it's incredible screen uniformity and color gamut. However, I'm having a hard time calibrating it. I am using a VGA output from my PC that connects to a DVI input on the monitor. I also am using a USB connection between my PC and the monitor. It seems that the monitor actually talks to my graphics card and alters the gamma. When I used the bundled ColorNavigation software with an xrite Eye One Display 2 colorimeter, it generated a profile but did not actually save it to the color profile spool in Windows. I am not sure how this system works. In the manual it says we should not select the profile it generates as that will lead to color profile issues. So what should be the color profile default in windows when I use this monitor with Adobe PS? My understanding is that PS tries to fit the working color space to the default monitor profile space - unless you click "proof monitor", in which case it displays the image as would be seen on that monitor without color management. Now, I am actually seeing colorsmore accurately in the latter scenario with this monitor, which is the reverse of the situation I had with all previous monitors.
Sorry for the long ramble, but I am hoping someone here with experience with this series of Eizo monitors can help me out. Any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks,
Kartik

Hi Kartik,
If ColorNavigator is creating the profile, it should save it to:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\DRIVERS\COLOR
If it doesn't then something seems wrong to me. That profile then should be used as the default monitor profile.
When you bring your images in to Photoshop, you manipulate them in your working space (which should not be the monitor profile) - which provides a well-behaved area in which to make changes to your images. PS works with the current monitor profile in that it runs your color 'through' the monitor profile so that the color is corrected when you view it.
