Went up to Dream Lake and Bear Lake today with Mr Nick. Aspens are sure changing now! Probably the storms this coming week will strip some leaves.

The clouds at Dream Lake arrived a little too late for the color.

Dang, those aspens are lookin' good! Dream Lake is always beautiful, too. Nice work, Bill. I'm headed over to the San Juans in 4 days and I can't freakin' wait to see some aspens. Thanks for the warm up.

Nice work, Bill, especially that first shot - killer!

Those are sweet shots! And especially #1 with me, too.

Any updates on areas further down the Bear Lake road? Bierstadt Moraine?
Thanks

Craig, since Bill hasn't answered yet I'll answer. I was paying particular addition to Bierstadt Moraine area on the drive back out, most the Aspens are still green on the hillside, with a little yellow. I'm thinking maybe with the cooler temps this week next weekend will be better there - unless the wind/snow knocks alot of the leaves off!.

Thanks for the update Nick. I was hoping for more color by now. Looks like it might be another couple weeks before it changes over nicely. Unfortunately, the San Juans will be calling by that time.
I might try next weekend if others post about some good changes after this next storm.

Nice images Bill. I'm with Nick in saying that there is something familiar about that composition in #1.
With the bear lake image it is good that there are a few clouds above Long's and Chief's Head to bring a little more interest to the sky. I am not certain about the little wisp in the upper RH corner though. And nice PS job on removing all of the photographers on the rocks and in the trees along the far shore.
As for #2, I like the composition and as you say, the clouds are nice, but a little color would be better. The lake is definitely down from earlier this year and there are a lot of rocks pulling my attention down and out of the image at the bottom. Tough to not have them there though given your location.

#1 is an icon Steven! I shot it 2 years ago too and everyone else has as well. You can find it in Erik's and in David Clack's collection too I am sure. And luckily all the photographers that day were on the lakeside. And we didn't find mamma bear either.

Of course #1 is a classic Bear Lake autumn scene and you find images from there in everyone's portfolio. I too have a shot from the same location on several occasions including this year. No complaints, but perhaps too weak of an attempt at humor (on my part).

How many photographers does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Answer: 50, 1 to screw it in and 49 to say "I could have done that"
Looks like the icon will have some nice new snow on it today.

Ouch! It appears to me that I have offended you. I apologize as it was not my intent. It is difficult to include voice inflections in typed words, but I had tried to hint at my attempted humor with the "wink: icon.

No offence taken Stephen. They always say that the last thing to go should be our sense of humor.
In Edinburgh, Scotland they have a military cannon that fires at precisely 1pm every day. When asked by a tourist why they fire it at 1pm the soldier replied "It's cheaper than doing it at 12pm!"

Darn, you found my secret spot! I was standing at the same spot as in your first shot 2 hours ago. There's a nice dusting of snow on Longs Peak now (none on the ground) and the leaves are still looking very good. Tomorrow might be good if the sunset comes through.

another winter storm is in the forecast this morning for the hills, due late today and tomorrow...12" snow on the hills.. a dusting in Denver...
