I'm heading to the Wasatch Mountain area in Utah for the first time and am hoping you all might share some local wisdom timing my trip.

I'm trying to decide if I should go there late this week head there in a couple of weeks, to maximize the amount of color overall.

I won't be doing a great deal of hiking (3-5 miles max), and will be doing plenty of driving along the various scenic loops in the area.
Shots I'm hoping for include colorful trees with towering mountains in the background, creeks/small rivers with brilliant foliage, and a reflection or two if possible.

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Added: I've called various ranger districts and it looks like maples are red along Alpine Loop, with aspens just starting to turn. Mirror Lakes Loop is peaking, while foliage along Cottonwood Canyons (Little and Big) and Nebo Loop are just beginning to turn.

Jay, rangers were right. Maples are red along Alpine Loop, they look beautiful. Aspens need at least 2 more weeks. I would not recommend going to Mirror Lake, too many dead trees in the area. It looks sad, most of the loop, and unattractive. Cottonowood Canyons should be nice and worth going for sure.

I really need to get up the Alpine Loop this week some time. I would agree though that things seem to be just a bit behind where they would be in past years.

Thanks for your confirmation Gabi.
