Please forgive me for a little shameless self promotion. I assure you it is in no way commercial, I just want to share what I have been doing the past two years.
For the past two years I have been working on a project that has been sorta kept under wraps. We have posted some video teasers here and there, but today we are finally revealing a sample of our innovative educational media created in Monteverde, Costa Rica.
A little bit of background first... The project, Canopy in the Clouds, consists of a collaboration with a PhD candidate in plant biology at the University of California, Berkeley and a videographer. We set out to create innovative education for middle and high school science classrooms. The subject we chose was the canopy of the cloud forests of Monteverde, Costa Rica, a spectacularly charismatic forest, and the research being conducted there by my collaborator, Greg Goldsmith.
The photography itself is a type of panoramic photography known as spherical panoramas. Basically, the images cover every angle creating an immersive experience. We have embedded a series of hotspots in order to supplement the images and provide some instruction about the forest.
The entire series will be released in the coming months but for now we have released one pair. The project was featured on one of National Geographic's blogs yesterday so I would love to direct you there to learn more. Click here to learn more.
I have also posted one of the images over in Man & Nature if you care to see that. Click here for that
I'd love to get some feedback and responses to the imagery and the project. I have been working on this for the past two years but unable to release any imagery until now so have had very little feedback on the work. I am really excited to hear the opinions of other photographers and can also answer any questions you may have.
Thank and I hope you can forgive the shameless self promotion.
Best,
Drew
