I just bought a D300 (used) and need to update the firmware version. I went to the Nikon downloads page and am having trouble getting it to download to my Macbook Pro. I followed the directions but must be doing something wrong? Also, how do you upload onto the memory card for the camera from the computer? I haven't done this before and the directions weren't real clear on the website.
Thanks,
Marcy

I've had no problems doing this with my D70 and D200 firmware updates on my aging PowerMac G4, and can't recall any quirks in downloading the updates. I just followed the directions on the Nikon web page.
Basically you start the download like any other software or file download, expand the downloaded file if it has been zip compressed, copy the resulting files/folder to the top level of a memory card (easy to do if you use a card reader - just drag the files onto the external drive that represents the flash memory card), install the card in the camera, and select the proper item from the menu on the camera LCD screen. Then just follow the directions on the LCD.
- Have you successfully downloaded anything else before?
- Do you know where the OS puts downloaded files and how to find them (starting with OSX 120.5 Leopard they default to a downloads folder that you should be able to access directly from the dock).
- do you have a card reader?

Marcey,
I recently updated my D300 through my macbook pro.
I downloaded firmware at:
http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16150/kw/D300%20firmware%20update/p/19/r_id/116678/sno/1
Unzipped the downloaded files. There are 2 bin files A and B
You take an empty CF card, I formatted it in my D300 camera first. Then used my CF card reader to connect the card to my mac. Copy one bin at a time to the CF card, I started with A. After copying A or B (only one at a time) to the CF card I then ejected card and placed the card back in camera, turned on the camera, went to firmware verison setting, and followed the instructions on Nikon page above. After upgrading the first bin, You do the same with the second bin.
That's it.
Be sure the battery in the nikon is charged, the update does not take long but the camera needs to stay on the entire time, so to be safe, use a fullly charged battery in your D300.

Also be sure to save the A or B bin file to the top directory on the card do not put in any folders. Also erase the bin setting in the CF card each time after upgrading each bin file.
Hope this is helpful.

Thanks so much for all your help, Richard & Bill, appreciate it so much!
I feel like a dummy because I think I did everything right, except I thought I had to open the A and B files in the computer before dragging each one to the card reader icon! When I tried to do that the computer went
Ok, I will give it another try and see what happens. I'll post my results - hopefully with much better outcome. LOL!
Thanks again!!!!!!
