I am planning on working the areas around Ridgway as well as the Telluride area very soon and plan to car camp at least two or three times to get a jump on the sunrise...are there places to car camp for good views of Dallas Divide, Sneffles, ect. Also, the same for Telluride area in Silverpick Rd. area (am open to any suggestion on this). I will be using a passange van which I'm sure will limit my access to certain roads. Any help or suggestions at all will be appreciated. Joe Rogers

As long as you're not pulling onto someone's private property (a slight concern on Wilson Mesa) or parking in the road, find a spot, pull over, turn up the stereo and ENJOY! Plenty of places in all that you mentioned, your only concern will be if they're occupied already. There's most always enough to go around.
Dallas Creek Rd
Alta Lakes Rd
Last Dollar Rd
a huge parking area just before Dallas Divide
Owl Creek Pass Rd
County Rd 5 beyond the forest boundary
You get the idea...

Just south of Telluride are two Forest Service campgrounds in case you get desperate.
Aspen trees still aren't prime yet in this area....perhaps immediately before and after your Hunt's Mesa trip?
See ya next weekend!

Thanks, Todd and John.....yeah, looks likes much of the peak time is going to be after the Hunt's Mesa trip. Im still in Loveland at my daughter's trying to figue out where and when to head south....all reports on the forum seem to indicate its too early for Kebler, while some areas have already lost leaves. Probably will do Maroon Bells one morning and then wander in the wilderness til I find something that works. John, see you'll at the Mesa.
