Well, I didn't get to make it out there a few years ago - but this October I will... I'll be there the 28th through the 31st with another PNW photographer.. Not sure if the area will be beyond peak then (probably will I imagine), but hope to shoot around Pike's Peak and maybe RMNP.. wondered if anyone might want to meet us and maybe offer some suggestions on where to head..

Thanks!

End of October is well past peak for the fall colors as the leaves should be peaking in the high country this week. But there is still plenty of good fall/early winter shooting in the areas you mentioned as well as others. I would think most of your activities will depend upon the weather as well as your ability to adapt to the elevation. Keep in mind that there was a period of about 4 years just a while back that Denver had its first snow of the year on the 31st, but that cycle may be broken.

If you are not up for long hikes, RMNP will still have plenty of opportunities near the road. For example, the Bear Lake road area is very photogenic and trails to interesting subjects (Albert falls, Dream Lake, etc.) can be less than a mile out.
