Unepic Bells
Just to juxtapose Stan's great posts recently of the Bells, here's one taken on a perfectly clear night. The light bleeding in from the left is the half moon from Friday night. I still don't have these kinds of shot anywhere near where I envision them to be, but this is my latest attempt.
1600 iso, f4.0, 30 sec.

Morris, I like this one. The stars really add to the majestic scene. A bit too much noise, but without a remote trigger and bulb mode, I am sure that there is not much you can do about that. =) Good work though!

What time of night was this...I'm going down there tomorrow night and I will get there about 4:00AM. I got me remote and bulb setting so I'd like to give it a try. Nice shot by the way! How was the color during daylight?

Very cool, unique shot of Bells.

Jack, the color is not very good up at the lake. It is slightly better at lower altitude. I don't know when the moonset is supposed to happen, so check that, but 4 should still be dark enough to try it! If you go over a 30 sec. exposure, the stars turn into blobs and I don't care for that, but you might try blending a 30 sec, and a longer exposure. I shot some longer ones, and I will probably try that method when I have more time. This was a single exposure.

Looks pretty epic to me--i tried some night shots a couple years back and the results were miserable. Im definitely going to give it another shot some time and this is giving me incentive! I think you menat 'higher altitude' in your last response

Thanks, Stan. You are very kind, and no I actually meant lower, because the color was better yesterday lower down the valley. Up high they are either green or on the ground, and the green ones have brown spots on them, so I don't think they are going to turn well. :frown:

Unepic Bells? No such thing!

Great concept Morris and it is a really good first try. You should give it a try again before the leaves fall.

Very cool! I was there friday night and was considering getting out of the car to shoot since the stars and the moon were staring down at me through the moonroof but laziness got the best of me. Ah... there is always next year

I think this is cool also! I kind of wish it was more centered to the left to give it more drama between dark and light...but I love the silvery effect of the peak and stars...good idea!

Way cool shot Morris. I did this last year when I was up at the Bells, but I didn't have the moon to help light the foreground. I did get a great Milky Way shot above the silhouetted Bells, however.

The key to reducing the noise is stacking many images. I think I did close to 50 if I remember right.

Thanks everyone, and Craig, I will try that next time, although I'm too neurotic to sit still for 50 shots. :jump:

Belly up to bar for a shot of epic dude! I think it is pretty cool. I have not seen a shot of the bells like this before! :toast:

Hmm, I might have to try this tomorrow before sunrise. This is my only successful star shot http://www.shoot2capture.com/Landscapes/Utah-National-Parks-July-2007/6733915_bejb7/1/#430070034_nztvH-A-LB
