I've been to the Columbia Gorge a few times, mostly in the Spring. What areas in the Gorge might be of interest to photograph in the autumn?
Thanks
Dave

Not quite in the Gorge, but I've heard Silver Falls S.P. is a good autumn location. Anyone know what period would be the best bet for peak color?

I read around the 3rd week of October for the Gorge & Silver Falls, I'll be there around that time

Elowah Falls, Ponytail Falls, the eastern part of the gorge where there are long grasses and old homesteads. Also, saw a herd of bighorn sheep along the highway while driving where the John Day River flows into the Columbia. Almost all had big racks if you're into photographing wildlife. I've seen them near here about three times in the past two years.

As Mark said, it depends on when. There are lots of pockets of color, and all of the normal attractions are worth checking out to see what options are available. However, my experience in the few years I've been following it is that the color in the gorge as a whole is so-so. There's a lot of deciduous trees, e.g. Big Leaf Maple, that turn brown rather than yellow or red.
Another consideration is to take a loop out of the gorge to higher elevations. The best color I've seen since moving here was a weekend I spent last fall doing the Stevenson to Trout Lake to Glenwood to Lyle and back to Stevenson loop. These photos are all from that trip:
