Do some of the photographers over here participate to this event?
A lot of associations pariticpated. Consider it next time for your national park appreciation day... It's well organised, with events every night to entertain you. If you want to learn some there's usually slideshows presented by famous yosemite climbing legends.
The Facelift is about giving up some of your weekend to pick up trash to cleanup Yosemite. It goes from roaming the roadside to pick-up cigaret butts and cans, to scouting and picking up heavier crap left from old construction, etc.
A group of friends, we decided to go big, and picked up 750lbs of crap, from a trailer that crashed and burned a little after tunnel view a couple of years ago and some leftover steel cables and junk left near electric poles.
There's a lot more opportunities to volunteer every month:
You can even make your own volunteer group...

Usually you get free camping and parc access in return (bonus: not in the usual noisy public campgrounds).
Give back... Cheers!

I never knew about this Dan. That sounds perfect for photogs waiting for the light to come back around between morning and afternoon. I'd be up for that.

Thanks for the heads up. I do normally try to do my own trash detail when out on my own to what extent I can, but it's nice to know that there is an organized effort to clean things up on a large scale too. I'll definitely keep this in the back of my mind for future outings.
