A Little Blue Heron from the archives
Between less than satisfactory weather for photography and work obligations, I haven't had much of a chance to shoot lately. So, I've again been spending time sorting through some RAW files from the past. I came upon this Little Blue Heron that I took when I was shooting Canon gear. This non-breeding plumaged adult was photographed at Millwood Lake with a Canon 1D Mark II, 500mm f4L IS Canon lens, and a Gitzo 1548 tripod with a Wimberly head.

I was shooting from a pretty low angle and that left more OOF leaves than I would have otherwise wanted. And, given the closeness of the bird, I didn't really have enough room for its virtual legs.

I like the intensity of the gaze, great detail in the bird

Nice capture Charles. I like the simple composition and how the clear background is free from distractions. Thanks for sharing.

Charles the color and detail in the feathers is georgeous. I also agree with John about the nice clean background which I like very much also. Your 500mm and technique really shows in this image.

Really nice image Charles. The detail is so nice that he jumps off the page. The blurred background really helps since you didn't try to overdo the colors. I wouldn't worry about the legs, only photographers know that rule.
