I got my 7D today and couldn;t wait, so I went out to take a few quick shots down Roxborough Rd. Only problem was a lot of wind and not much wildlife.
Sorry I have been absent from the forum for awhile. I had back surgery 5 weeks ago and finally have been feeling a little better this week. Still can't get out for long periods of time.
These were both taken using my 300mm f/4 with a 1.4 tc. both images were shot handheld at f.7.1 ISO 400 and are large crops (only about 20% of original image). Just did a couple of very quick adjustments in Lightrom and PS CS4.

Thanks for posting these, Kurt. Pretty good for handheld. Have you tried any really high ISO shots yet?
The birds are tack sharp, and the colors are great. There is noise showing up in the background, and probably from the crops from the original?

Excellent!
The barbed wire really works well as a perch. Hope you get healed up real soon so we can see more like these!

Yeah Morris, in the full size image, I cannot see the noise. that is why i mentioned about them being large crops. I also did not do any noise reduction either in the camera or in processing.
I don't know about the 7D but I love the bokeh from that lens!
Oh yeah, beautiful bird shots!

Awesome images, Kurt! Thanks for sharing these. I love bird images, probably b/c I can't photograph birds worth a squirt! LOL. Anyway, I'm praying your back heals quickly.
