I stopped by Lake Conway a couple weeks ago but couldn't find a good spot to get close enough to any cypress to shoot. Most of it looks like private land.
Can some of you I40 guys give me a clue on a any good spots to try.
You can download a detailed map of the Camp Robinson special use area. (Get the 11x17 map -- it's much better.)
It will show you how to come north on Hwy 89 from Mayflower to enter the Camp from Clinton Road. From the entrance you will see how to get to either the Dix Creek west access ramp or the Dix Creek north access ramp. Both these areas are where I take 90% of my cypress shots on Lake Conway.
(Gee, I feel like I just revealed my favorite fishin' hole to everyone!! )
Both these areas are excellent either morning or evening. They are situated in a way that the cypress trees catch great light at either time. You will, however want to bring a long lens to get full frame shots of most of the trees.
Hope that helps.

PS > Before you go to these areas be sure and check the public use schedule for the camp. Occasionally the camp is closed for special events. However, you can get to both these access areas I've shared from outside the camp. Just follow the map and I think you'll be pleased.
Feel free to drop us a email when your going to be the area. It's much easier to drive you around to the better locations. David or I would be glad to show you around.
Matt, it's supposed to rain on Sunday. I doubt we will get a moonrise. But, the weather dudes are wrong most of the times. Maybe it will work out in our favor this time. Looks like 6::48pm. The sun sets and the moon rises at the same time on the full moon. Hope for clear skys.
Saturday night may work for a moonrise, maybe. I may go on a little exploration drive this evening around the lake. I will be shooting somewhere Saturday morning but a 6:30 moonset may be a bit early.
