I took this photo last Friday night--maybe 10 minutes after the lake photo that I posted several days ago. In many ways I prefer this image--the action of the water, better/clearer view of the mountain, subtle alpen-glow reflection in the water, etc.
I got caught with my pants down so to speak on this picture. I was tired from a long drive and hiking in with camping gear, so in the evening I left my sharpest lens and tripod @ camp (foolish--but a lesson learned) thus this image is with a superzoom lens (18-200 Tamron) and was handheld. I was scouting for elk at the time so thought the telephoto might come in handy.

I think you did very well for what you had to work with. I'd love to have seen this with a half second or so shutter so smooth out that water a bit. I think it would look pretty interesting with the color of the water for sure. I think the photo has great range in the lighting.

I don't think the muddy water is going to do it. I also feel the mountain shouldn't be obscured so much by the trees. And then there's the sky. You don't have to have an interesting sky in all your shots but I feel in this one the sky doesn't hold much interest. This is all my opinion and taste. Not bad for hand held though.

Some good points above. My favorite part is the glow on the mountain.
