Helo All

This is a set up shot where the perch was chosen specifically because it provided a corner to corner framing option. I really like the balance of the image but ultimately it is just a bird on a stick.

Your thoughts welcomed.

Cheer,
Chris

What's wrong with a bird on a stick Chris? It's a very nice stick too.
I like this one although it does look a tad light on my monitor (was this shot in snow as there does seem to be a lovely diffuse light from below?

That's a really well thought out image, Chris. Something I'm trying to aspire to. You're well ahead of me here.

No nits except I'm seeing a thin halo around the head. Not sure if it was the light or compression.

Cheers,

Chris

I find the image itself is excellent but I don't really understand your comment saying it's just a bird on a stick!! I wouldn't expect to see him perched on anything else .
(I find the term so negative and derogatory, pet hate of mine  )
Thankfully your image is a lot more inspiring than the title of it

Robert, yes, snow was lying on the ground.
Chris, I can't see it on my monitor but I'll take your word on it - certainly can't see it on the high-res.
Intersting comment Justin - this image was recently submitted to a magazine editor and it drew the remark "it is just another bird on a stick".

It's difficult to see what else you are going to get a picture of a woodpecker on. You've made a superb job of it too and you shouldn't disparage yourself. You planned the shot and executed it perfectly - that's good photography.

Fantastic stick! I would be chuffed to bits with this. I can see a slight halo too ( now it has been pointed out!)

Really nice stick... shame the woodpecker had to land on it

A very pleasant image to view....
