Color from the San Juans
Bob Karcz and I spent this past week in and around Ridgway. Got home late yesterday. We were nearly blown away by that storm on Wednesday, along with a lot of the leaves. We did, however, mangage to find some color. The red scrub was particularly nice this year. Last Dollar Road was good and there still might be some leaves to shoot along there. Owl Creek Road was nowhere near as good as the area toward Telluride on Last Dollar Road.

This image was made Wednesday morning. Winds at the time were at least 50-mph. Stabilizing a camera was not easy. We noticed several photographers crossing the Dallas Divide Icon Shot fence and walking onto the private property. The owner might not care but fences are there for a reason and I think we all need to respect the photographers behind us as well as the property owner.

On the way home we drove from Gateway to Grand Junction on Highway 141. This image was made about 10 to 15 miles NE of Gateway. Again, the red scrub was awesome.

This image was made Thursday morning near the summit of Owl Creek Pass. The small creek was partially frozen and interesting ice patterns had formed.

Great collection of images, Rod, my favorite is #2, love the way all the elements help drive our eyes to the peaks in the distance.. SWEET !!

Wow really nice. The first one is really sweet.

#2 is sweet! My only nit is some HDR-ish looking artifacts around the edges of the peaks in 1 and 3 but that's easily fixed. Great collection.

I sure enjoy the shot of the ice patterns!

Agree with what is already said. The artifacts near the peaks in 1 and 4, the ice is really neat looking and #2 is a wonderful image. Too bad to read that some folks are jumping fences and walking onto private property. Hopefully it will not produce problems in the future.

Too bad that they extended the fence line to reach into the traditional photographer shooting landing spot. Hope nobody plans on ever shooting those wonderful aspens below from the fence line anymore because you can no longer reach it without jumping the newly installed fence.

Its wonderful to know that some lands are truly exclusive to only the rich now (cough cough Ralph Lauren)

Very nice, Rod! I was up there, too, on Wed morning, and yeah the wind was crazy. We just about ran into a half-downed tree on that side road that connects 145 from the ophir loop. I was surprised that the leaves weren't all gone that day. We left Wed evening, and were sure that by Wed night, it would be a totally different scene.
I really like # 2 and also your ice shot.

Rod,

Love 2 and 4 - can't resist a good ice shot even in October.
