Just returned from the wintry Jackson Hole area in an attempt to shoot what was left of autumn there. Pretty much the only place that had significant fall color remaining was the Oxbow Bend area. Here's a three image pano from last Thursday. I also got some nice shots from the following morning, but somehow a routine lens change early in that shoot caused a hundred or more dust bunnies to leap onto my sensor. Everything shot that wonderful morning is going to require a lot of cloning before it sees the light of day!! :frown:

Kebler this year before the rain and wind and snow was Very dusty.

This is absolutely spectacular! It really captures the essence of the place.

Nice shot. Love the color of the trees and the mtn in the background.

Great shot Guy! You know, no matter how many times I shoot at Oxbow, I never seem to be able to convey how beautiful that scene is the way that you did. Count me on the envious list! Love it! :toast:

As for that pesky sensor dust, there must be something about Oxbow that brings out the dust bunnies. Every year, I wind up cloning til my mouse batteries die because of that place! Something about those fall colors and electronics...

Wow - very nice! I've never been there; it's definitely on my short list now!

Well done! One of the best fall color images I've seen yet this year. Wish it was mine.

Awesome Pano! Love the colors with the snow in the mountains. Color me jealous. Great job on the stitching also.

Oh my!
This certainly makes up for any other shortcomings you may have had on your trip.
Easily the best Fall image I've seen to date. Outstanding capture and 'development' here, Guy!

Awesome shot! Great color, but it leaves me wanting for more image on the right side. Panos ought to have a defined start and stop and I'd love to see the other side of the river. Is there a fourth image that could be added on?

Regards, Ken

Guy, fantastic capture!! :toast:

I was there the same time as you and never saw anything like what you saw here. Now I wish I could go back! Out of curiosity, what time in the morning did you capture this?

Thanks for the kind words everyone!!

Ken - my thought process here was that the river was the stopping point for how wide I went on the right. I did not have a fourth image over there as it would've included people, cars and a road.

Brett - this was actually shot at 12:30 (who says you can't shoot in the middle of the day!). I was actually just scouting the area for the next morning as this was my first trip to the Tetons. When the sun finally broke through the cloud deck, I couldn't resist shooting the midday pano.

I love this Guy. One of the better pano comps I've seen from the spot - and I've seen so many. Half an hour later, I drove up and started hiking around the hillsides to the right of your scene. This sure makes me wish I was lounging in the parking lot instead, holding a beer and my cable release. Kudos on a well-executed Oxbow image. Seriously, perfect comp, great color, amazing location ... what more do you need?

We obviously should have coordinated an Oxbow meeting!

Fantastic photo. An alternative to all the people, is to put a canoe in and paddle around
the horn of the island on the left. You leave them all behind. I have not done it in the fall, but did in the summer. I will never forget it.

Going around that island to the left, I saw mother moose and baby, bald eagles, pelicans, otters, fish, elk, sandhill cranes, osprey, and witnessed fight over a fish between a bald eagle and and an osprey. The fish landed just on front of my canoe. It was the "wildest" one hour that I have spent in the outdoors. Picture brings back many fond memories.

I am getting a server error when I click on the link. Can you repost?

Sorry Cassandra. There seems to be an issue with Smugmug, my hosting service. That's the first time its ever done that...hopefully it'll be back soon. :frown:

Edit: Actually, here's a link to the same image on my PBase account...

and a bonus pano that's compositionally similar to Brett's (but shot earlier)...
